Project Description
A sewer line that crossed Route 7 from the Days Inn to Cop John Drive in Rutland Town collapsed, requiring emergency replacement. The situation worsened with increased flows following the construction of a car wash in the area. OCE sought to utilize the jack-and-bore method to replace the sewer line, since closing Route 7 along an urban route for open-trench replacement would add significant traffic control work and cost.
The project involved the emergency design, permitting, bid, and construction of the sewer main crossing. OCE completed the design, permitting, and bid processes in less than four months, and construction was completed within two months of award. The bid included an add alternate in the event that the jack and bore was unsuccessful, and open-cut trench work was required. Thankfully, the jack and bore method was successful with 130 feet of pipe installed with this method and over 350 feet of new sewer main overall, as well as six new manholes. This project utilized both local and emergency funding and was completed on time and under budget.
