Project Description

The size and amount of impervious area on Middlebury College’s main campus in Middlebury puts the college in a position where any expansion to impervious surface requires a permit. This severely limits the College’s ability to make changes and incorporate new projects in a timely fashion. As a result, the College retained Otter Creek Engineering to provide master planning services. The result was a design retrofit of an existing wet pond on campus, permitted by the State and included an additional allowance for impervious area. This solution allowed the college to consolidate existing stormwater permits, provide treatment for existing impervious (not requiring treatment) and eliminated the need to apply for Stormwater Discharge Permits for each incremental expansion up to a maximum threshold.
