Project Description
The Town of Winhall selected Otter Creek Engineering to evaluate alternative vehicular traffic patterns associated with Lower Taylor Hill Road. In recent years, an increasing number of vehicle accidents have occurred, predominately during the busy winter ski season on this stretch of roadway. In combination with the deteriorating condition associated with the bridge crossing of the Winhall River, the roadway was closed due to increasing concerns regarding the structural integrity of the bridge. OCE suggested three potentially viable options for the road (resume two-way traffic, one-way traffic uphill, or one-way traffic downhill) and provided a condition assessment of existing facilities based on these possibilities.
Our firm recommended one-way downhill traffic, along with improved signage, the “point of no return” undercut and regraded, and guard-rail installed along the most extreme curves.
