Project Description
Otter Creek Engineering is fortunate to have the opportunity to assist the Town of Middlebury with a variety of projects. Exemplifying two of our core project sectors, we provided engineering services for two separate projects that happened to be right next to each other on Halladay Road. The first project consisted of the replacement of a wastewater pump station originally built in 1978. This station’s pumps were located in an underground dry pit that required operators to perform maintenance and repairs in a confined space. Our design included demolishing and removing existing pumps and controls, refurbishing and modifying the existing wet well, new wastewater pumps and controls that did not require confined space entry, new electrical components, a new generator, and a generator building. OCE provided bid and construction review services and helped the project be completed on time and under budget.
Following the flooding after the intense 2023 rainstorms, a culvert abutting the new pump station required replacement. Utilizing FEMA funds, OCE provided design, bid and construction review services for the replacement of an existing 5-foot corrugated metal culvert with a precast concrete box culvert with internal dimensions of 6-foot wide by 5-foot tall and 39-foot long. The installation of this culvert required the realignment of an existing sewer force main and gravity sewer system within the project limits.
