Project Description
After a significant rain event, two sections of slope along Dewey Avenue between the roadway and Young’s Brook became destabilized and failed. OCE, Sanborn Head, and the Town of West Rutland utilized FEMA disaster funds to provide site survey, geotechnical, alternatives analysis, engineering, design, and construction-related services to stabilize the road slide. The site conditions required an exceptionally lightweight fill in order to stabilize the roadway. A man-made solution was ultimately chosen, known as glass foam gravel or Glavel. To our knowledge, this was the first use of this material in this application in Vermont.
