Project Description

The Town of Middlebury needed to replace existing water mains within its core business district and sought to complete this work before VTrans repaved Court Square and Court Street. The project had a strict deadline that had to be met, and OCE provided design, bid, and construction phase services for the replacement of approximately 3,500 feet of water main and appurtenances on Washington Street, Court Street, and Court Square. The existing aged infrastructure, heavy traffic loads, and the US Route 7 Corridor created unique design challenges.  Since this area had been prone to major water main failures in the recent past,  the design took into account the fragile condition of the existing mains and the newer portions of the system that the Town wished to keep in service, including the use of temporary water.   Due to the high traffic volume throughout the project area, much of the work was done at night to limit disruptions.  The project was completed on time and under budget.
