OCE had the opportunity to welcome two interns into our East Middlebury office and provide them with first-hand experience in a civil engineering firm. Mia Grasso, a UVM upperclassmen, and Daniel Anguish, a recent graduate of Vergennes Union High School and current University of Maine freshman, spent the better part of the summer working alongside OCE’s engineers and technical staff.

About her time at OCE, Mia had this to say:

During my summer internship at OCE I was exposed to many aspects of how an engineering firm operates and what type of work I may be doing as an engineer in the future. I loved working at OCE because of the welcoming environment that let me ask questions and try new things, allowing me to figure out where my interests lie within the field of engineering. After my internship at OCE, I will be returning to UVM for my senior year to finish my undergraduate degree in environmental engineering with a minor in pure mathematics.

Daniel enjoyed the variety of tasks he had the chance to be involved with:

While at OCE I helped with all stages of the project process, primarily the surveying and bid phases. I helped with administrative tasks that provided me an overview of the entire process and promoted time management, organization, and documentation that I will use in future endeavors. After my time at Otter Creek I will be studying Civil Engineering at the university of Maine to prepare for a career in structural engineering as I work towards my PE.
