Every summer, OCE seeks interns for its East Middlebury office in order to support future generations of engineers and environmental scientists. In 2022, we were lucky enough to welcome two Environmental Engineering college students: Will Crawford, a Worcester Polytechnic Institute student, and Kaitlyn McNamara, an undergraduate at Clarkson University. The two had a lot to say about their time here!
Will enjoyed the variety of tasks that civil engineering requires:
I am currently going into my sophomore year at WPI, studying Environmental Engineering. I chose to go down this path because it has a touch of every field of engineering and has various career paths involving the environment. At OCE, I have enjoyed gaining valuable work experience while working in the field and office. It has helped me learn what the engineering industry is like, getting to participate in surveying, hydrant flow testing, field checks, and more. It has helped me learn a lot towards being successful in my field. In the future, I hope to work with things that I am particularly interested in, such as clean energy, microplastics research, and water management.
Kaitlyn enjoyed getting out of the classroom and working on projects in the field:
I am working towards an Environmental Engineering degree at Clarkson University. I was inspired to take this path when I took Environmental Systems and Society at my high school. I have enjoyed visiting different sites and experiencing a wide variety of work that is done at Otter Creek Engineering. My plans for the future are to continue pursuing a degree that simply allows me to to work outside and better the environment. Otter Creek Engineering has allowed me to be a part of a fascinating variety of projects at various locations all over Vermont.
