Groundwater Contamination Investigations and Corrective Action Plan

As a result of Phase 1 and 2 investigations, the dry cleaning solvent perchloroethylene (PCE) was discovered in subsurface soil, bedrock and groundwater on and off the property.  Groundwater monitoring wells were installed, and extensive soil, gas, and water quality sampling conducted.  Following development of a CAFI and CAP, remediation included excavation and offsite disposal of 1,500 tons of contaminated soil, injection of sodium permanganate solution into soils and bedrock.  Contaminant concentrations declined significantly and remediation has been completed, with a Site Management Activity Completed (SMAC) designation and site closure granted in the Spring of 2014.
